From Sir Tiberius, Kingdom Seneschal,
Good Afternoon Caid,
As we have a large Kingdom event this weekend and households are starting to plan for Great Western War we wanted to share a few updates and clarifications.
For Queen’s Champion this weekend in Cedar Grove Park, while the Kingdom of Caid is not requiring masks, LA County has put in an Indoor Mask Mandate. With the cases for the Delta Variant on the rise and our positive case in Calafia this past week, it is understandable that people want to take precautions, this could be by wearing masks, keeping social distance or not attending. We want to support each person in our club with the choices they make. Please be mindful of our friends this weekend.
Some people have asked about wearing buttons or colored ribbons to indicate comfort levels or vaccination status. Please note that Officers and Event Staff may not distribute any such items. If a person wants to wear wrist bands, ribbons, pins, or tags that denote vaccination status, comfort level with physical contact, they are absolutely free to do so. But these items are voluntary and not in any way required by the club.
For Great Western War, it has been asked if households will be able to enforce mask requirements or require vaccinations. Private Households will be able to require masks be worn in their camps and can require vaccination under the same conditions as if an event were held at a private residence. Those groups would also be responsible for checking and enforcement, though the SCA enforcement would be involved if people became belligerent or threatening over those private encampment requirements. Merchants can require people entering their booths to wear masks as well.
It is strongly recommended that any private camp which plans to require masks or vaccines have signage posted at their camp entrance.
Please note that Territorial or other Official camps cannot require vaccinations, as the SCA is not requiring proof of vaccination and they must follow our posted Kingdom COVID Guidelines.
As we have more events and gatherings during this time, we want to continue to communicate updates and provide the populace with the ability to make informed decisions.
Thank you to everyone for your continued commitment to keep yourself and our community safe and well.
